P.S. 242Q The Leonard P. Stavisky Early Childhood School

Principal’s Message

Welcome to our early childhood school! Our small, high-achieving community of approximately 300 students, spanning pre-kindergarten through third grade, provides a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment. We prioritize creating a safe space where relationships flourish, and parents actively participate through open classrooms.

Our school hours, from 8:00 AM to 2:20 PM, accommodate diverse schedules. For early birds in grades Kindergarten through third grade, we open doors at 7:30 AM, offering breakfast and supervision. Our curriculum extends beyond the basics, encompassing physical education, arts, and a strong focus on core subjects like reading, writing, math, social studies, and science. All classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and all students engage in regular use of technology, such as iPads and laptops. Social-emotional learning is woven into every aspect, fostering mindfulness, self-awareness, and responsible decision-making.

Our state-of-the-art covered playground ensures active and safe playtime. We proudly host a bilingual Mandarin-English program in kindergarten, enriching our educational offerings. Our experienced staff specializes in early childhood education and focus on creating meaningful experiences tailored to young learners. Their knowledge of age-appropriate curriculum and teaching methodologies ensure that our students are provided with a foundation for lifelong learning.

At our school, student voice takes center stage, with opportunities for leadership roles. We’re committed to shaping not just our school community but also inspiring students to make a positive impact on the world around them.
